DTY refers to Drawn Textured Yarn. Drawing textured yarn is made by twisting polyester partially oriented yarn (POY) at the same time using a high-speed texturing machine. This type of yarn is also known as air textured yarn (ATY) because the distortion in the yarn is created by using a jet. This is a mechanical method. In the process of air-jet deformation, the blocky yarns with low elongation are produced by cold air flow.
This deformation process can create permanent twists, curls, loops, rolls, or folds in the yarn without disrupting the essential continuity of the filament. This method not only improves the texture of the yarn, but also gives the yarn a soft and woolly feel. This deformation process adds warmth and comfort to fabrics made with these types of yarns. This is mainly because these rings or pleats trap a large number of small pockets of air, which prevents the air from moving through the fibers, thus binding the fabric together.
The stretched textured yarn is mainly used for weaving and knitting fabrics such as clothing, furniture, seat covers, bags and so on. Depending on the type of filament section, DTY yarns can be classified as semi-dark, fully dark, bright or three-leaf bright.
