There are different types of polyester fabric available in the market:
• Ethylene Polyester
Ethylene polyester is commonly known as polyethylene terephthalate (PET). In the polyester market, this type of polyester is the most common kind of polyester. It is made from a petroleum derivative called ethylene. Depending on the manufacturing method used, they can be divided into four types: filament, short fiber, bundle and fiber fill.
• PCDT Polyester
PCDT stands for (poly1, 4-cyclohexene - dimethylene terephthalate). Compared with PET, PCDT polyester is not as popular. However, due to its elasticity, it is used in many applications. The manufacturing process of PET polyester is similar to that of PCDT polyester. The only difference is the chemical structure of the two polyesters. PCDT polyester is more durable, so it is used in heavy duty applications such as upholstery and curtains.
• Plant-Based Polyester
Plant-based polyesters are also manufactured from ethylene glycol and dimethyl terephthalate. The main difference between plant-based polyesters and other types of polyesters is that for other polyesters, ethylene comes from petroleum, while for plant-based polyesters, ethylene comes from renewable resources such as sucrose, etc. In addition, plant-based polyesters are biodegradable in nature. However, compared to other polyesters, plant-based polyesters are expensive and less durable.
